First Day of School

Good afternoon Henderson Ave PS families!

We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing summer. We are very excited that school is just around the corner. Staff have been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

I would like to welcome new families and returning families to Henderson Ave PS. School begins on Tuesday, September 3rd.  Supervision begins at 8:45am. Staff will be meeting and greeting students in grades 1 to 8 on the tarmac at the back of the school. Please look for your child’s grade. SK students will meet their educator team in the kindergarten area on the north side of the building. If you are new to Henderson and require assistance, there will be staff with master lists available to help you locate your child’s teacher.

Students in JK will be joining their classes at 1:40pm. This is a very exciting time for them as they enter school for the first time. We understand this can be bittersweet for parents. Rest assured we are here to help them feel safe and welcomed for their first school experience. Please bring your JK children to the kindergarten area. adjacent to the school parking lot.

End of day procedures: Dismissal is at 3:20pm. Kindergarten and grade 1/2 students will be released to parent/guardian/sibling. Please be on time as students get anxious if they do not see a familiar face.

Parent Pick up: If you are picking up your child, please pick them up at the exit door (same as entrance door) appropriate to their grade. If you are using the Kiss and Ride, please be patient and respect staff as they implement our safety procedures. For new families, staff will guide/direct you. Children will wait for pick up at the stop sign. If you arrive before they do, you will be asked to circle around. We are a one-way entry and exit. There is no parking on the yellow hash lines.

As you know, the first day can be a little hectic. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure that students are made to feel comfortable as they find their class.

Have an awesome long weekend and we will see you Tuesday, September 3rd.
